How Much Should a Business Website Cost in 2026?

The pricing question is the first one everyone asks and the hardest to answer honestly in a single number. But there is real logic behind it.
What actually drives the price
The number of genuinely different page layouts, whether the copy and photos are provided or need to be written from scratch, whether there's a payment or ordering component (see our e-commerce websites), and how much support you'll need after launch.
Why two quotes for "a simple website" can be so different
A template site built on a website builder and a custom-coded site can solve the exact same visible problem but cost very differently — one is assembled from existing pieces, the other is built to your specific structure and can be extended later without starting over.
The real cost of the cheapest option
Free or near-free builder sites often carry hidden costs later: a monthly platform fee you're locked into indefinitely, a ceiling on what you can add when you need a feature it doesn't support, and slower load times from everything the builder loads that you don't actually need.
What "ongoing cost" actually covers
Hosting, a domain renewal, and the occasional update. Budget for this every year. A site nobody ever touches again quietly goes stale.
A fair way to think about it
Ask what happens after launch — is the project truly finished, or will you be paying again for basic changes? Whatever price you're quoted, that answer tells you more than the number itself.
